Depending on where in Mysuru you are starting from, there are two routes from Mysuru to Somanathapura. If you are on a tour and plan to include Srirangapatna or Brindavan Gardens before heading to Somanathapura, the route via Mandyakoppal and Bannur would be convenient. On the other hand, if you are coming from Mysuru city, starting at places like Mysuru Palace or Mysuru Zoo, the direct connect to Bannur would be shortest.
The roads are well maintained and the distance of 35-45km should take anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour for you to reach Somanathapura.
If you plan to visit other places of interest like Tirumakudalu Narasipura (T.Narasipura) or Talakadu from Mysuru, visiting Somanathapura first and then these places makes sense.
