There are two prominent routes from Bangalore to Somanathapura – one via Mysore Road and another via Kanakapura Road. Both routes have advantage over the other in some aspect. If you are traveling from North, West or South-West Bangalore, you will find it shorter, hence convenient to travel by Mysore Road route and if you are traveling from East Bangalore, South-East Bangalore or South Bangalore, you will find the route via Kanakapura Road shorter.

We did mention each route has something to offer that the other route does not – here it is. Mysore Road route is wide and is being widened further so that the dense traffic that flows between Bangalore and Mysore on a daily basis. While this might temporarily hinder the drivers, it is duly compensated by the eateries, restaurants and other amenities that dot the route right from NICE Road intersection all the way to Mysore. The route also has a few pit stops that can enrich a tourist’s journey including Ramanagara, Channapatna and Maddur. The Kanakapura Road route to Somanathapura passes through Harohalli, Kanakapura, Halagur and Malavalli. The route is scenic, dotted with lush green paddy fields, rows of coconut groves, hills covered with early morning fog and less crowded compared to Mysore Road route. Distance-wise and Travel Time-wise both routes are not very different. Choose either of the routes and you are not wrong!
